Mr. Nobody (2009): Priceless

"Every path is the right path. Everything could've been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning." - Nemo (Jared Leto)

General Review

We are very proud to review Mr. Nobody as our starter. It has everything; drama, sci-fi, philosophy, and decent actors. Featured with a good cinematography and, an ultimate mind fucked plot, Mr. Nobody successfully brought confusion for all the people who watched this until the last 10% of the story. Nope, we don't overrate it, unless you are a person who always suit to common perception. We dare to say it is priceless. Why?

Body & Taste

Speaking of the movies' body, as we have told you before, it's a rather mind fucked (if it's not mind blown). So, we're not gonna tell you as the plot went. We're gonna tell you a very short synopsis of it. (the long version is already available on other websites, tho')

Nemo (Jared Leto) was one man who had not been kissed by the Angel of Oblivion. It caused him to be able to remember everything's that going to happen. Every goddamn thing. Even the thing that is on alternate universe.

Nemo faced with quite a lot of life changing "crossroads". But, he could foresee what would happen for each choice he take as he had the ability to remember everything. He could foresee to its details. He could foresee to its very chain of events , physical dimensions, and even emotions. Like, what would happen to his whole world if he chose Elise (Clare Stone) over Anna (Juno Temple) back when he was a teenager.

The old Nemo was the last natural man on Earth. When he was interviewed by a journalist, he blabbered all the memories he had. Even the journalist couldn't understand which path did the old Nemo had really chose.

It's really messed-up-plotted movie at the first quarter. Another universe came by another one. Leaving unfinished story until the movie ended. Fortunately, each story was being told differently, each one has its style and drama. There was Nemo narrating through all the movie to help you understand (or remember) the course of the story.

The Caffeine

Here we come to the sacred chapter. We found the caffeine. I know that some of you might be lazy to read it in paragraph, so we explained those in bullets (and paragraphs, sadly):

  • The Science Theories

Alright, we all love science. Or at least most of us is interested on it. Mr. Nobody has a legit concept of time and fate. As Nemo said himself,

"What was there before the big bang? Well, you see, there was no before because before the big bang, time did not exist. Time is a result of the expansion of the universe itself. But what will happen when the universe has finished expanding?”

There was Nemo acting like Nel DeGrasse-Tyson in one of his science documentary narration. He explained the concept of time and how it moved only in one direction. But, what if it moved in backward direction? We mean, isn't it a dimension? Confused?

Stop thinking time as one absolute concept which is different than other three spatial dimensions. Think of it as a dimension. So, if a vase fell down to the floor and it broke to pieces, a backward movement of time would counter every direction of vase's pieces 180 degree. Brought all pieces to be as one complete vase again and you would get the concept of backward movement of time. It was astonishing.

Did you ever heard of The Butterfly Effect? Well, although we found it as "coercion", but it was still amazing. The concept of butterfly effect was used perfectly in this movie. We would know that even the slightest action we took would affect to something else, to someone else in this world, in any way necessary, in any scale compulsory. Even the slightest actions. Could you imagine how the world might affected by your life-changing decision?

  • Nemo's Dramas

Who's gonna walk over a cute couple having their love life so passionate? Everybody could not. At least us. The most appealing drama was Nemo and Anna's in their puberty. Basically, it was just an ordinary love story. I love you, and so do you, but our parents.. Sh*t, they got married. We're sorry, it's no ordinary love story. Their parents are married to each other.

So, what's the caffeine? The caffeine we found was contained in their pure, simple love.

We know how puberty was somehow filled with simplicity, shallowness, and foolish decisions. The drama of Nemo and Anna was 100% describable by these words.

Watching them cuddling and being hipster brought back our puberty love, when the world was much simpler than what we know now. The promises and sweet words they had spoken might be sound so silly for us. It was like, "Dude, you just lived your life for goddamn 15 years. What do you know about love?!"

But, yeah, sometimes, to find the truest meaning of something, we have to go deeper. We have to go back to the time when words mean so much anything, and promises mean commitment.

We have to go back to the time when we dare to fight the world.

  • The Lesson Itself

Nemo was all-universes man. He could remember what he would have been done for every decision he took. All decisions. It means that he could have chosen the life he wanted, but he didn't (the movie did not tell us which path he had really chosen). He could have chosen to be rich as f*ck, but he did not. Why?

The first quotes written in the top of this review briefly summarized all the philosophy within Mr. Nobody. This quotes seems like trying to reestablish our concept of decision making, right? If every path is the right path, why bother ourselves in confusion when we face crossroads? Why bother ourselves if every path that we take could have just as much meaning?

No. We didn't understand the concept that way. This particular caffeine would wake you up in the pursuit of meaning.

Start digging in from the third sentence of the quotes, "And it would have just as much meaning". The searching of meaning was always been a quest of lifetime. If every path would have just as much meaning, so we could find our purpose as human being in this wretched, beautiful world, right?

We still have the power to choose, though. It is our prerogative right to choose as a gifted species. But, maybe God's rights are far more powerful than ours. And for some reasons, we were stuck on some paths we didn't want. Now, let us put it this way, who could guarantee that we would never have complained if we walked the path we wanted?

We just have to find the meaning within the path we're walking on. Maybe every human's purpose is stated by how much meaning he will have or give to the world, not the occupation he has.

So, that was Nemo had done. He chose none of those choices, eventually.

"You have to make the right choice. As long as you don't choose, everything remains possible" -Nemo

Because, who could choose an apple over another apple?

Aftertaste

We highly recommend you this movie, especially for you who always dwelling in confusion of life. It might please your mind in the dead night, where you can have a clear mind and quite vibe. Mind-blowing science stuffs, simple passionate drama, and a whole new perspective to understand life and fate have classified this movie into 400 Milligrams of Caffeine. We guarantee Mr. Nobody would be one of your best shot, as we have said, it's priceless.
